Within Reach

If you looked
you’d find me
day-dreaming
eyes spellbound
by humongous
spider perched
upon web
hairy artist
and his art
cozily
aligned

or kneeling
squinting
at the light
reflecting
through dew-drops
resting
a spell before
traveling on.

I passed hours
prospecting that
river of rocks
between
Andersons’ yard.
and ours
looking
for agates
fit to polish
valuable
gems concealed
from most eyes
I hungered
for something
hidden
realms, friends
once known, now
blurry and dark.

Maybe, had
I focused
harder
I'd have
discovered
a beanstalk
one that
traveled
from the world
I knew, to others
forgotten, lost.
